National Mulled Cider Day

September 30th is National Mulled Cider Day! Mulled is not the most attractive word, but as it means to heat a beverage and add spices and sweetener to it, I decided I could handle tackling this food holiday. Well, as if to mock the idea of mulled cider in September, today was one of those picture perfect Indian Summer days in the Bay Area. And it was hot; like… really hot. Sitting on my porch this morning enjoying a cup of something that tastes just like Christmas while the temperature soared to numbers we rarely experience (sweating without exerting physical activity, what is this?!) was slightly silly.. but I didn’t mind. The drink reminds me that Christmas will be here before we know it, and for me, a very cold Parisian one at that!

National Pancake Day

September 26th is National Pancake Day! Mmm… pancakes! Banana chocolate chip pancakes are my absolute favorite, but after realizing the bananas I picked up at the store yesterday weren’t quiiiite ripe enough I rummaged through my pantry and decided to experiment by throwing some dried cranberries in with the chocolate chips. The result? An afternoon snack of delicious sweet/tart pancake goodness to share with my housemates on this foggy day at home.

National Play-Dough Day

September 18th is National Play-Dough Day! So, before I comment on the elephant in the room (play-dough… a national food?!) I’d first like to say how in disbelief I am that it is September 18th already, and I’ve thus far done only one other posting this month. But don’t you worry, the blog is coming back to life with a vengeance!  And what a better way to jump back in than with everyone’s favorite American dish… play-dough? Only in America. I loved today’s food holiday though- Mom sent me the recipe she used when we were kids and just the smell of the play-dough cooking on the stove took me back to sitting around the table with Deb and Matty when we were kids. Although my memories tend to show us sitting nicely and making lovely shapes, I’m sure Mom would recall more play-dough thrown than shaped, and, let’s be honest, some eaten as well. Yum.

National Chocolate Milkshake Day

September 12th is National Chocolate Milkshake Day! After having one of those days yesterday where it seemed everything that could go wrong did (including failed hot cross buns for National Hot Cross Bun Day 😦 ) it was nice to come home after work today and find that, at the very least, I can throw things into the blender and make an awesome milkshake 🙂
